Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the query,
I understand this could be very disturbing. However, she needs not worry that much.
Getting an antacid or proton pump inhibitor (20mg of Omeprazole) is a good start. She might have for now taken note of drugs and food that might disturb her. She will have to avoid anti inflammatory drugs as much as possible. Caffeine containing foods aggravate reflux like chocolate, coca cola and coffee. Avoid late night meals and raising the head of her bed by 5cm could be enough.
A simple chest X ray and a fibroscopy could be helpful in excluding a hiatal hernia and better ascertaining reflux or peptic ulcer disease.
Booking an appointment with a gastroenterologist could be most helpful.
Kind regards as I wish her the best of health. Please, do feel free asking follow up questions in case of need.
