Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Pain Caused By Acid Reflux

Posted on Thu, 4 Feb 2016
Question: Yesterday afternoon, I start to have gas pains. It was about 5 hours after I ate. I drank hot water and it felt a little better, then I ate soup. It got worse. I laid down with a heating pad and symptoms went away. In all, I had pain for about 5 hours. Then, upon waking up today, I was fine. I had soup, and about 2 hours later, started to feel a little bit of gas pain. Very mild. I have had several bowel movements since yesterday afternoon, none of then are abnormal. I have no problems urinating.

Brief Answer:
Avoid the food that is causing bowel discomfort.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear XXXXXXX

Thank you for your question on HCM,

I understand your concern. I read carefully your question.

What you are describing most probably is nothing to worry about.
-- You might have gotten a viral gastro-intestinal infection, so you might start having diarrhea in the next few days.
-- Does the soup has milk? Sometimes the bowel develops an intolerance from milk, and it becomes hyper-reactive. In this case just avoid milk products for few days until the bowel stabilizes.
-- Do you have any intolerance from other products? Like Gluten for example.

The bowel is very sensitive organ. Sometimes specific foods that you might eat for years, may start to not be tolerated anymore, or cause problems. Also factors like cold feet exposure may cause changes as well.

To summarize, all you have described above doesn't seem worrisome. just avoid the food that is causing the discomfort.

Hope this is helpful.

no, the soups did not contain milk. even just drinking plain water caused discomfort. I do have a study nose. which I thought was unrelated, but maybe it is?

Brief Answer:
Keep close monitoring of the symptoms and let me know if anything new

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

What I have described above, still applies.
With the symptoms you described, will have to see if you start with diarrhea, vomiting or other symptoms. For now, seems like nothing to worry about, especially if the bowel movement and stool passage is normal.

Yes, the study nose is not related to it.

You won't need any particular medicine to make yourself feel more comfortable, just avoid the foods that you see makes it worse. Some things that you can't avoid, you just can't.

If it is worse or not better in two weeks time, then consider doing a visit to your local doctor so he can hear your abdomen and advise accordingly.

Let me know if things change and if I can help you with any other question.

Regards,
