Suggest Treatment For Abdominal Pain Due To Enterococcus Bladder Infection

Posted on Mon, 19 May 2014
Question: Hello - I am now on the last day of 7 days of Cipro 250 mg bid for enterococcus bladder infection. I still feel i have the infection as i have lower abdominal ache. I have not had any urinary symptoms just the dull pain. I hate taking antibiotics. I also have a clear whitish discharge which I am told may not be related.. I was prescribed one Diflucan pill for this but it didn't help - I have not had itching or burning.... What is the next step. If Cipro isn't working what is next? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
get a urine culture sensitivity and sonography KUB

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

Ideally you should get a urine culture and sensitivity report repeated, if Cipro is not working as there might be organisms which are resistant to cipro.

Also recurrent infections will need a sonography of your kidney, ureter and bladder to find the cause.

Get these test and follow up with me.

I already had the culture and the sensitivity report. It advised that Cipro would work for the enterococcus. Is it possible that I may not have the infection? And the ache could be from something else. Would i have to take more Cipro?
it is not a repeat infection as I have never had one before this

Brief Answer:
Please do not take more Cipro

Detailed Answer:
There is a possibility that it might not be infection but just IBS .

That is the reason i have asked for a REPEAT urine culture as it will tell if any infection is left and if cipro has acted completely.

Please do not take more Cipro either ways as it will not help further.

Okay thank you very much... I appreciate your advice very much.
How does one get this type of infection? Are antibiotics the only way to cure this?
Thank you!
