Posted on Mon, 15 Dec 2014
Question: Hi,
My daughter has the stomach flu and hasn't vomited for two days. I took her to the doctor today for lower abdominal pains and they did an x-ray that showed a lot of gas. She is still in pain and I was wondering if I can give her Gas X to relieve some of the pain?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Gas X has no proven efficacy.Better avoid it.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your query and concern

Its extremely important that the cause of increased gas formation in the lower abdomen is evaluated to precision before giving anti foaming agents like Gas X.

Gas X has demonstrated no increased efficacy in relieving the above symptoms in recent clinical trials.

Its important to rule out intestinal obstruction in her case by getting an ultrasound scan of the abdomen.

In case if the ultrasound has not documented bowel obstruction, then drugs like Motilin and Metronidazole can be given to relive pain and residual bacterial infection if any.

Note:These drugs should be taken only in presence of strict medical supervision.

Thank you.
