Question : Dear doctor

I am a 35 year old male who is overweight and is a type 2 diabetic.

For the last 1 week or so i have had this feeling of not emptying my bowels properly.

It feels like after the 1st push nothing comes out.

However the stools look nornal shap and normal colour.

Odor seems fine aswell.

I am a businessman and i am stressed at the moment due to work comitments.

I also suffer from anxiety occassionally.

I would like a bowel specialist to answer this if possible?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Brief Answer:
Avoid stress.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

Your symptoms seems related to irritable bowel disease which is very influenced by stress and anxiety.

I would like to suggest to avoid unnecessary stress and to control anxiety. If your symptoms persist I would recommend starting an anxiolytic and to contact a psychologist for a proper management of stress.

Wish this will be of help!

Brief Answer:
no signs for cancer, IBS aggravating by stress

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

You are not having signs of cancer as long as you are not having problems with blood in feces neither diarrhea nor constipation.

However, they seem to be early signs of IBS.
Stress will aggravate the symptoms.

Hope it was of help!

Brief Answer:
Constipation definition....

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Constipation is a condition in which the patient has a difficulty in emptying the bowel and it’s associated with harden stool. Constipation includes patients which have three or less bowel movements a week.

To have problems with emptying properly doesn't necessary mean that you are constipated. Based on the above definitions to be considerate constipated you should have; a harden stool, difficulty in bowel emptying and you should defecate three time a week or less.

If you were my patients I would suggest:
- Drink plenty of water
- Use probiotics
- Use stool softeners (lactulose)
This will help to empty properly your bowel and relief your concerns.

Wish you health!
Dr. Klerida
