Brief Answer: OC PILLS CAN BE TAKEN FOR 3 MONTHS. Detailed Answer: Hello Thanks for writing to us with your health concern. I hope the following workup has been done - 1. Pelvic ultrasound scan. 2. Hormones - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free Testosterone. If this is normal, then it indicates transient hormonal irregularities, which can be corrected with cyclical hormone therapy. Ideally, progesterone cyclically given is the first choice, but if you are intolerant to progesterone ( Primolut N ) , then the next choice is oral contraceptive pills. These are combined pills containing low dose estrogen and progesterone, generally most women are safely able to take the newer pills which have minimal side effects. Please consult your gynaecologist and after going through the medical eligibility checklist, you can opt for 3 months of therapy with pill packs such as Femilon, Novelon, Marvelon etc. They further provide contraceptive benefit, which plain progesterone will not provide. All the best Please feel free to discuss further.
