Brief Answer:
Could be a myopathy

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal.
I have read your query.
I think I would be able to help you.

The symptoms of the query are quite suggestive of this being a myopathy. This is a disorder of the muscles in which the muscles become weak. This usually starts in the hip or the shoulder region and gradually progresses downward toward the fingers or toes.

The possible cause vary and we would need to test it quite extensively including testing for sugars thyroid and other tests like ESR and cpk.

Ideally i would also suggest a test valley nerve conduction study inclusive of electromyography.
Thus we would get a strong indication of what Is going wrong. Sometimes, if the tests remain inconclusive, we may have to go for biopsy also.

As per the treatment, it depends on the cause. Some of the causes are treatable. The others need stronger measures like steroids.

I have tried to make it as simple as possible. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
Best of luck. Dr Mittal.
