Suggest Treatment For Abscess Between My Legs And Scrotum

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Sep 2014
Question: I seem to have some kind of abscess between my right leg, and under the scrotum. I thought I just had a skin irritation, but it started draining pus. The pus is not draining as much as it was, but when I looked closer with a mirror, it is open. No blood is discharging, but just a yellowish pus. I have never had any such issue before, and I make sure to clean that area daily.

Brief Answer:
Needs through drainage and antibiotics

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,welcome to HCM forum.

Drainage of yellowish pus indicates a persistent infection inside with abscess cavity.
This needs a through drainage of the abscess through a minor incision under local anesthesia, followed by antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs for a few days along with proper wound care.Culture and sensitivity testing of the pus will tell us the exact antibiotic to be used.Without adequate drainage, antibiotics cannot control the infection.
If this was there for a long time(you have not mentioned the duration),we will also have to do a histological examination of the tissue debris to rule out conditions like tuberculosis.

Kindly see your primary physician for management. He will guide you.
Meanwhile, keep good local hygiene.Avoid excessive sweating.
Wishing for a faster cure,
Thank you.

Hi, thank you for your answer. The pus only started 48 hours ago. It has decreased since then, to only minor amounts. The irritation began on maybe Tuesday of this week. At first I thought it was just a rash or something to that extent from my leg rubbing against that area.

Brief Answer:
Need not worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
thanks for the information.
So this is a case of usual bacterial abscess only.
Anyhow, incision and drainage may be needed,as,usually there are multiple loculi of pus within a single abscess, and not all loculi communicates externally. This we can assess with a physical examination. If no residual pus,I&D may be avoided, and need antibiotics only.Your doctor will guide you.

Hope now you got cleared.
