Question: I think some of my acne wash went up my nose and down my throat. Its all I smell and taste now. Its 10% benzoyl peroxide or salycilic acid. Should I go to the hospital?

At first my heart was racing for a while. Not sure if this was because I was stressed. I felt slightly dizzy and had a headache. This happened about 11-12 hours ago and I can still smell and taste it. I was only washing my face it could not have been much I took in.

Don't worry, you will be alright.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome back and thanks for sending the details.

After analyzing the complete query let me reassure you first that overall there is no need to go to doctor in person. This kind of condition occurs due ingestion and usually subsides in 48 to 72 hours.
The immediate kind of reflex after ingestion is always like you have experienced.

I suggest you to take light food and do not consume any caffeine or beverage or related food or drinks.

I reassure you that except for the unusual smell or taste you will not feel anything else.

The nature of both salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide is quite simple and are not dangerous ones. The amount also appears to be quite small.

I hope this helps.

With regards,

Dr Sanjay Kanodia
