Question: My 30year old daughter was giving her dog Vectra flea treatment and it "exploded" into her eye. She has burning and pain but is able to see. She has flushed it with tap water for 15 minutes. Should she do anything else?? Need to go to the ER? Thank you

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care magic

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that Vectra flea splashed into your daughters eye. Vectra flea is a chemical used to treat fleas in dogs and other pet animals. It contains compounds like permethrin, pyriproxifen....
If it comes in contact with the eye it is known to cause irritation.
The first aid to be done is to wash with water thoroughly. Since she has done it no need to worry.
The next treatment depends on the damage caused by the vectra flea. It can cause corneal epithelial defect and this requires treatment by the use of artificial tears and antibiotics eye drops.
As of now she can start with antibiotic eye drops and artificial tears eye drops for symptomatic relief. But if the pain and irritation persist or increase she needs to go for eye examination with her ophthalmologist. If the pain and irritation decrease she can consult her eye doctor next day morning.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
