Suggest Treatment For Accidental Swallowing Of Fish Bone

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jul 2015
Question: Hi there. I swallowed a fishbone on Sunday night (5 days ago). It's not painful but it is uncompfotable and I keep getting scared that something bad will happen. I've tried eating bread, bananas etc. but nothing worked. How much longer can it stay there without being a threat to my health? It doesn't feel that far down.

Thanks you.

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Since the area is uncomfortable , it is possible that the bone caused an abrasion to the surface of the throat or esophagus.

The bone is not likely still there because it should have been pushed down by the food that you have eaten since that time but the persisting uncomfortable sensation would be due to any minor injury to the surface.

Injury is not normally life threatening in any way. Normally healing occurs within 1 to 2 weeks.

Using soft/non spicy/cold or warm (but not hot) foods to prevent further damage and to speed up healing , is advised.

Hard/spicy/hot foods or drinks may aggravate the area.

Using anti inflammatory pain killers may help to relieve any discomfort and may with healing.
This includes medication such as ibuprofen, naproxen..

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
