Posted on Mon, 21 Nov 2016
Question: I have a flesh colored bump under my tonsil on the left side only, no pain, is this cancer or normal tissue? I quit smoking recently and have a lot of issues with allergies and acid reflux. I have a picture of my throats it I don't know how to add it.

Brief Answer:
From your description doesn't seem like something to worry about.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using HCM to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

It is a little difficult to tell if something is cancer without seeing it, or without doing a biopsy.

In general the tonsils are irregular in shape, so one side can be different for the other.
Also, if the color is the same as the other part of the tonsil, this is an indication that it is normal tonsil tissue. A cancer would be of irregular shape and different colors.
You are of an age that it is not much possible to have a cancer. It is a good decision to quit smoking, because it predisposes of many different cancers.

I would say to keep an eye on it for changes. If it grows, gets different from the other part of the tonsil, then its the time to see a local doctor.

Hope this is helpful.
