Suggest Treatment For Acute Lumbar Muscle Sprain In Lower Back

default
Posted on Fri, 27 Feb 2015
Question: So two days ago before bed I was sitting on the couch using a laptop. I was sitting awkwardly and it became uncomfortable. I've done that before and felt a sore back or arm but i'd go to bed and feel fine the next day. This time, the next morning I felt i had a sore left shoulder blade. Played tennis the same day but it didnt restrict my game. That night in bed the pain flared up again, this time in the same shoulder blade and also left bottom rib.

I felt it come and go throughout yesterday in my left shoulder blade, left bottom rib and left top rib at random times in different places, sometimes making breathing uncomfortable. At night it felt better (except for dinner when the pain flared up again). Today the pain seems to have isolated near the left collarbone, again coming and going, but really flaring up at lunch (ill burp and it'll ease the discomfort). Any ideas whats happening there? I feel fine otherwise, no tiredness or sickness etc.

Brief Answer:
looks as acute lumbar muscle sprain in your back and shoulder.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case.

According to your symptoms this looks as acute lumbar muscle sprain in your lower back.
Most probably due to bad posture or sudden jerk.
Another differential diagnosis can be lumbar disc bulge leading to sudden onset of pain.Intervertebral disc compresses spinal cord and leads to back pain and shoulder pain.

When such patient comes to our hospital we usually do x ray to rule out any nerve compression.
MRI spine will show any disc bulge is there or not.
And when muscle sprain is confirmed muscle relaxant, analgesic and neurotropic medication can be started consulting your doctor.
Till time, avoid lifting weights, Sit with support to back. You can consult physiotherapist for help.
Physiotherapy like ultrasound and interferential therapy will give quick relief.
