Question: Hi Doc,
My 3 years 6 months daughter initial had stomach pain which lead to 5 to 6 heavy vomits which seems to be yellowish & green in color, with nearby doctors assistance we started giving her vomikind syrup 3ml every 6 hours. After 8 hours she stopped she stopped completely vomiting but she started going to motions(watery stool), our doctor suggested Taxim o forte 2.5 ml two times & enterogermina liquids two times a day. Till now we had given 3 dosages or Taxim & enterogermina.... from past 12 hours she had gone to monition altogether 4 times.
Doc, please suggest whether we are on right dosage with right medicine or not ? Also our Doc mentioned this is due to Food poison. Really appreciate your valuable suggestion/opinion.

Brief Answer:
Acute watery diarrhea - no antibiotics.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

It seems your kid is having viral diarrhea. Once it starts it will take 5-7 days to completely get better. Unless the kid's having low urine output or very dull or excessively sleepy or blood in motion or green bilious vomiting... you need not to worry.

There is no need to use antibiotics (like Taxim) unless there is blood in the motion. Antibiotics might worsen if unnecessarily used causing antibiotic-associated diarrhea.

I suggest you use zinc supplements (Z&D drops) & ORS as hydration is a very important and crucial part of treatment. If there is vomiting you can use Syrup Ondansetron (as prescribed by your paediatrician).

Regarding diet - Avoid fruit juices as they might aggravate diarrhea. You can give zinc supplements & ORS apart from normal vegetarian porridges & soups.

Hope I have answered your query.
