Suggest Treatment For Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Question: I recently lost my insurance. In the months leading up to losing my coverage I had been seeing counseling on a family issue (We (3) each saw seperate psychiatrist). Although entirely unrelated to the cause of me being there, my psychiatrist developed the suspicion I may have adult ADHD. Speaking with my mother, from what she told her psychiatrist - and her own personal view - they both seem to think this may be true too. I am waiting for state coverage, but it looks like it will be at least 2-3 months before I have coverage again. Is there a federal health center that someone who qualifies for Medicare/medicaid can go to, in order to be tested?

Psychiatrists do not work for free and require payment for their services, and insurance serves as the source of that payment. Federally qualified health centers require insurance for evaluations. You will need to apply for government-assisted insurance like Medicaid or a plan on the Obamacare exchange prior to receiving mental health services.

Dr. Sheppe. I fully understand how insurance compensates the doctors office billing rates. I have requested Government assistance, however the cutoff time, and new registration won't provide me a result until early January.
