Question: Hi. I am a 29 years old female from XXXXXXX I have history of allergic rhinitis. I have not been able to identify the allergen yet. Now I am having weird episodes of unilateral periorbital edema on and off. I had 10 to 12 such episodes in past two and a half years. My eosinophil count is raised and IgE levels is grossly elevated. I have taken symptomatic treatment so far like antihistaminics and montekulast. But these episodes still occur. And because of allergic component I have frequent sore throat and fever. My quality of life is grossly impaired because of it, please help.

Brief Answer:
Needs life time treatment

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having allergic rhinitis.

Mild to moderate form of allergic rhinitis can be managed with prophylactic medications like montelukast + steroidal nasal spray. In case of severe form, you may require immunotherapy.

Whatever the form, you require treatment for life time.

Periorbital edema suggests, some form of sinusitis, can be ruled out with CT scan of paranasal sinuses (polyp or mucocle).
In my opinion, continue same medications (montelukast, nasal spray). It will gradually subside. Have a regular follow up with your treating doctor.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health
