Suggest Treatment For Allergic Skin Rash On Body

Question: Hello Doctor: For the past two weeks I have been suffering with a severe rash, which started at my ankles, worked up to my thighs and arms, and now pretty well everywhere. I have been to a medical doctor and he prescribed Hydroxaine 25mg and Momethasone ointment0.1%. Despite taking that, I still continued to get worse..that was a week ago. I am still in much discomfort with itching and what now appears to be hives. I think I need to have allergy testing done, as I really am wondering what started this terrible episode. Last night I woke up about 2:30am and was in agony with itching redness and swelling. Even my lips felt a bit swollen. Would love your advice as to what to do next? Sincerely,XXXX

Brief Answer:
You probably need a stronger treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

I read carefully your query and understand your concerns.

It seems to be an allergic reaction to something.
Hydroxyzine belongs to the class of medications called antihistamines. It is used to relieve itching and other symptoms caused by allergic conditions.
Mometasone is a glucocorticoid (steroid) that is used on the skin to relieve itching and inflammation of eczema, dermatitis, allergy and other skin rashes.

The fact that you are getting worse after this treatment means that the prescribed treatment is not sufficient to treat this allergic reaction.
You probably will need a stronger oral antihistaminic or a higher dose of it for itching and oral or injectable glucocorticosteroid in order to dominate the symptoms of this allergic reaction.

You also need to do allergy tests to sort out the right cause of your allergy.

I suggest to consult your doctor again or see an allergy specialist and get his opinion.

Hope my answer has helped.Let me know if you have any further question,I will be happy to help.
Wish you a quick and complete recovery.
