Suggest Treatment For Allergies And Sinus Headaches

default
Posted on Wed, 21 Sep 2016
Question: I suffer from allergies and sinus headaches. Occasionally I get a weird almost metallic smell during these times. I have been given Cipro for the infection which also helps my chronic bladder infection. 250 mg twice a day. This smell makes me nauseous and I don't have much of an appetite which is bad for me since I am a type 1 diabetic. Any solutions? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Suggestions given.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns. Incidentally sinuses have very poor blood supply and medicines do not get there easily. Therefore, sinus infections are difficult to treat. My suggestions for you would be:
* Take steam inhalation. Water in form of vapor can reach deep inside and help in diluting the mucus, thus providing relief.
* Syringing (saline rinse) would be helpful. Get a demonstration of the technique from an ENT doctor.
* Take antiallergics like cetirizine once daily as and when required.
* Steroid sprays might be needed. Discuss with your treating ENT doctor.
* Your ENT doctor would be able to take a closer look and tell you if there are other associated pathologies like nasal polyp or deviated nasal septum which might require further intervention.
* Periodically monitor Blood HbA1c and fasting blood sugar levels.
* Ciprofloxacin would help in getting rid of the bladder infection. Please complete the course.

Let me know if I could help further.
