Question: My 2 year 3months old son has been suffering from a type of allergy that his paediatrician called Atopy since he was 8months old. He has been given several antibiotics, he uses Baby Sebamed soap and body cream but it still keeps coming and going. 2 days ago the x-tray he did revealed enlarged adenoid and his paediatrician said it is this to the recurrent atopy. Please Doctor, what are the foods he should avoid and how can I get a lasting solution to this problem? Dear Doctor,

His Paediatrician queried Atopy with Adeniodal Hyperthrophy and requested for PNS X-ray. The X-ray result however showed ADENOIDAL ENLARGEMENT. The note by the Radiologist Read: A Lobulated Soft tissue density mass is seen arising from the roof of Nasopharynx and narrowing the Air-Way.

The Prevertebral Space is within normal limits.

The underlying bones are intact.

Brief Answer:
needs allergy testing

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to health care magic.
Adenoids hypertrophy due to atopy is very common in kids.
Your kids xray report confirms adenoids.
The exact triggers or allergens can be identified by a skin.prick test or Elisa for specific IGE . Consult your local allergy expert to get this testing done.
This cannot be treated with cetrizine alone. Nasal spray with steroids, are the direct medicines. Don't worry they do not cause any side effects if taken properly under medical supervision.
In few kids, if medicines do not work , surgery may be required but usually it is decided only after one or two years of proper medical treatment.
Wishing your child speedy recovery.
Regards
Dr Arun
