Question: My 5 year old had double eye surgery back in December. 6 weeks post she developed a bald spot. I took her to a dermatologist whitch diagnosed her with alopecia areata and gave her a steroid cream. The hair is growing back, but now 2 months post she has developed a dime size bald spot on the same side but in the back of her head. is this normal after surgery? How many more bald spots could she develop and how long can we anticipate on this going on?

Brief Answer:
No relation with surgery

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
Eye surgery has nothing to do with these bald spots on head. Both of them are totally different event.Aloplecia areata is an auto immune disorder and has no relation to surgery.Usually the hair grows back within 12 months or less. But as the condition is auto immune there is no cure however the condition may be controlled by using immunomodulators and treating the cause.
'minoxidil (Rogaine) 5% should be used in bald area twice daily.
Steroid injections or corticosteroid creams and ointments should be used.
Thanks
