Suggest Treatment For Anemia

Posted on Fri, 20 Mar 2015
Question: Should I have had a blood transfusion, and if so (which I did not)- could this be causing or create current and future health problems? Upon hospitalization my weight was
62kg with an initial hematocrit of 27.2%. Three days later after substantial blood loss it was down to 21.5% and upon discharge on day 6 back up to 22.0%. One month after discharged up to 30.1%.

Brief Answer:
30% haematocrit doesn't required blood transfusion

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
You have anemia. First of all you should go for hemoglobin, complete blood count and peripheral smear examination. It will give you cause of anemia. Whether it is due to iron deficiency, vitamin B12 deficiency or blood loss or some other cause. Then you need to take treatment accordingly.

You should search for the cause of bleeding and take treatment of that. Please send me your detail history and symptoms.

Blood transfusion is not required with haematocrit level of 30%.

Blood transfusion is only needed when your hemoglobin level is below 8 with chances of complications or you need to raise it urgently for surgery.

In routine cases it can be increased by iron and vitamin B12 therapy according to need.

Send me your reports so I can help you further.
