Brief Answer:
Urine analysis needed.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to the forum.
Travel can explain the ankle swelling, but not the badder infection.
Travel as such does not cause bladder infection.

At this stage, it is better to get urine analysed to look for infection.

Till you get the result, the following things should help.

1. Liberal oral fluids.
2. Cranberry juice.
3. AZO.

For the ankle swelling, if it does not resolve with limb elevation, it is better to consult your family doctor to rule out reasons like liver, heart or kidney problem.

Hope this helps,
Kindly write back for doubts if any,

The OTC has the AZO and a pain reliever. I have stopped taking my back pain meds in case of bleeding like the package says.

Know it is a Urinary Track Infection, just wanted to be sure. So the Edema is not connected to the infection, that is good to know.

Like I said, I am away from home, I live in XXXXXXX OR and am in San XXXXXXX CA for another 5 weeks.

Thank you for your help.
