Question : I have been feeling anxiety for past 3 to 4 days. I am an officer of paramilitary force of 26 years age and happily married.
I have been fearful of loosing my loved ones when I hear of any body 's death due to any illness. I also fear that if Something happens to me then who will take care of my family. I am not able to concentrate on any thing for the past 3 days. I am also feeling less sleep these days, I tend to think more when in alone.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

In my experience the news of death is one which deters many of our military personlles and they become concerned with well being of themselves as well as their family members.

I am writing down few of the strategies that will help you in management of stress and ultimately fear of death and concerns about the well being of family members. I am sure many of things are already done by you and adding few others may help you further.

1. Diet: Ensure intake of adequate quantity of fiber.

2. Ensure adequate water intake: At least three to four litres per day

3. Early morning Exercise: Brisk walking for 30 minutes at a stretch preferably in garden will be very helpful.

4. Start your day with a glass of Lemon water with 2 spoons of honey added. have a good breakfast.

5. Don't take work so seriously: We all have the feeling to excel in our respective fields and don't spend adequate time with our own self trying to understand our own needs.
Spend time with your family and friends.

I think this is the most controversial advice for a defence personnel but please understand that chronic stress leads to reduction in productivity and burn out.

6. While working take frequent regular breaks: Taking regular breaks will not waste the time, but it will definitely increase the productivity, concentration and reasoning. Take break for 5 minutes every 30 minutes.
Close your eyes and rotate the eye balls for couple of minutes

7. Avoid late night socialization

8. Avoid starring for longer time at the computer screen or TV for longer time

9. Steam inhalation before going to sleep will be very refreshing
10. Multivitamin and Calcium supplement.

11. Avoid tea/coffee/carbonated beverages / alcohol

12. Meditation and Yoga

In case the above measures fall short to help you adequately there is option of counselling or medication for further management of problem.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.

There is no need to worry as simple measures of stress management will help you immensely. Nobody becomes mental patient following some worries as this is part and parcel of Military life.

Brief Answer:
Please do the following

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for reverting back to me.

Please do the following things.

First when your mind wanders away in random thoughts use the stop technique. Imagine something like of red light or policemen with stick associated the fearing thoughts with such imaginations. Call a big STP once you become aware of these thoughts.

Second try to engage in some or other activities. Try not to suppress these thoughts. It will be better if you engage yourself in some productive activity rather than trying to suppress these thoughts.

I hope this helps you.
