Brief Answer: You will be well soon. Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for your query. I appreciate your efforts for medical consultation in so much distress. Important aspects of your query are: • 20 year old female • Complaints of: Panic attacks (severe anxiety attacks) and some OCD symptoms. • Difficulty in getting psychiatrist consultation. You appear to suffering from recurrent panic attacks (severe anxiety attacks) and some OCD symptoms. Both are classified under anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorders occur due to neurotransmitters imbalance in brain most commonly involving serotonin neurotransmitter. You need treatment with psychiatrist to treat your anxiety. It is not clear if you received any treatment in past, but believe me people life changes after treatment. There is need for treatment, if symptoms cause significant personal distress or affect personal/professional life like in your case. Both drug and non drug treatment like cognitive behaviour therapy (form of psychotherapy) are used for treatment. Choice of treatment depends on severity of symptoms, personal preference and availability of treatment. In drug treatment two types of medicine used. For immediate relief of anxiety benzodiazepines group of medicines are used and for long term relief most commonly SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are used. SSRI takes around 2-3 weeks to show its effect. All these are prescription medicines. Non drug treatment like cognitive behaviour therapy (form of psychotherapy) also takes few weeks to show its effect. So, take first step towards treatment and meet nearby psychiatrist for help. I believe you will be well soon. As you are having some difficulty in meeting psychiatrist, then following steps will help you: -Inform your mom or any close family member/friend about your anxiety problem and physician recommendation to meet psychiatrist. -Book appointment with psychiatrist. If it is taking time, then attend some psychotherapy sessions with psychologist. -Same time request your physician to write some medicines for anxiety which can reduce your anxiety till you meet your psychiatrist. You can request them to write some medicines for immediate relief in anxiety like alprazolam or clonazepm (0.25 to 0.5mg 2-3 times a day) for short duration. -Always remember anxiety cause different symptoms but it do not lead to any serious medical complication. So do not worry, you will well within 2-3 weeks of starting treatment. I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. In case of any doubt, I will be available for follow ups. Wish you good health. Regards,
