Question : I was on prozac 20 mg for two years. I started just taking it every other day and then went off of it. I was off it for a couple of weeks and now am trying to get back on. Can it take over 15 days for it to get into my system again. It has been 15 days and I have really had a problem with anxiety.

Brief Answer:
It takes approximately same time to work

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting at healthcaremagic.

In case of anxiety, prozac takes as much time to work on second time, as at the first time. There is no time difference in time to act.

Like at first time it has to go same process to act like occupying at receptors, blocking transport of serotonin and down gradation of receptors.

As per our earlier discussion about one week back, I am aware that you had partial response during first week of treatment. This is indicative of response in near future or coming weeks.

Rather than losing hope at getting impatient, it is time to be optimistic till it exerts its full positive effect on your anxiety symptoms.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
Thanks and regards
Dr Ashok Kumar
