Suggest Treatment For Arthritis In Knee

Question: I had a partial meniscectomy done seven weeks ago. I was doing well for the first 10 days; then I squatted down to connect some computer wires and the following day I began to have pain in my leg. I told my surgeon what I had done, but he said he doubted I had re-injured anything. I am 62, female, and I do have arthritis in my knees. My knee is swollen and very painful when I walk. Do you think I should ask for a new MRI to make sure I didn't do additional damage?

Brief Answer:
You are likely to be having osteoarthritis of knee.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. I think you are having osteoarthritis along with partial meniscus removal as it is common in your age. It can be confirmed by x ray knee joint in standing view. You can not take analgesic and Antiinflamatory so you will be benefitted by rest, support to joint, local application of analgesic ointment. You will be benefitted by glucosamine and quadriceps exercises.
MRI will be needed to see additional damage but if your x ray shows osteoarthritis then it is not much needed. You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
