Question: My lungs seem to need lots of humidity/moisture. In the Fall and Spring....I often have problems with bad dried out lungs. Usually, when this happens I use my warm mist humidifier every night....and it solves the problem. I've been feeling my lungs getting dry for many weeks....and I think they are very dried out right now. I've used the warm mist humidifier 5 or 6 times....over the past 10 days.....and I feel better after the use. But,...I'm still having bad breathing days. When my lungs get dried out....certain things trigger asthma attacks very easily in me. Furnace air....or going from XXXXXXX wet air....into furnacy air. That kills my breathing. My right lung closes often...during this dried out lung period. Making my breathing very rough and poor. Please help. My name is XXXXXXX My e-mail is: YYYY@YYYY . When I have a bad asthma episode........I won't go to Emergency because the hot furnace air there will put me in a dangerous state. It always worsens my breathing tenfold. How best to moisten my lungs. Tonight, I'm having a terrible asthma attack. Please help

Brief Answer:
Better to consult pulmonologist and get done PFT.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of asthma is more in your case.
And it is mostly triggered by dust and pollens.
In the fall and spring time, pollens and dust are maximum in the environment.
So these cause allergic reaction and asthma symptoms.
Better to consult pulmonologist and get done
1. Clinical examination of respiratory system
2. PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
PFT is must for the diagnosis of asthma. It will also tell you about severity of the disease.
And treatment of asthma is based on severity only.
You will need additional inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS).
Combination of antihistamine and anti allergic drugs are also useful in your case.
So don't wait at home, consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
