Suggest Treatment For Axial Spondylitis In Child
She is suspected of having Axial Spondyliotis - MRI scan normal, but lower back pain in sacrilliage joint and muscle spasm.
60 seems a very high reading - it was 18 in July. What else can cause a high reading - the assumption is that it is due to inflammation.
Likely to be due to a flare up of inflammation.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
ESR is erythrocyte sedimentation rate. It is a very non-specific test so it must be taken in context of anything else which is going on.
ESR can be elevated in the setting of inflammation or infection. If a patient has an autoimmune disorde for example we sometimes follow the ESR to see if there is a trend in a higher direction which could signal more active inflammation in the body.
ESR is usually examined along with other blood tests such as autoimmune markers or markers of infection.
Since there is no other specific problem in case of your daughter this rise in ESR seems to be due to an increase in inflammation.
Other causes of increased ESR include infection anywhere in the body, progressive focus of RA, Lupus, arteritis, auto-immune diseases like multiple myeloma etc.
I hope this answers your query.

Are you suggesting that the ESR indicates that possibly the Axial Spondyliotis is currently active?
Yes axial spondylosis is active.

Hello.
