Brief Answer:
Surgery should be last option

Detailed Answer:

Hi
Thanks for your query

I'm Dr Sudhir Kumar

I have gone through your query and understand your concern. In disc prolapse surgery should be last option as nearly 80 percent cases are resolved by conservative treatment (rest and medicines) within 2 years. Now if you are not responding to Nonoperative treatment then you can go for operative treatment if there is significant compression of spinal cord and roots. After surgery at same disc level recurrence in uncommon but at different level another disc can prolapse.

You can discuss with your doctor about it.

Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then I will be happy to help you.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.

Brief Answer:
Local analgesic gel without rubbing may give some relief.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome back
Alternative to pain killer is to avoid pain by rest. Local analgesic gel without rubbing may give some relief. You can avoid pain by resting your back by avoiding long sitting and standing. Back excercises and muscle building excercises will be useful in reducing pain in long term.
Everything else already discussed.
