Suggest Treatment For Back Watery Diarrhea And Abdominal Discomfort While On Carafate
Question: My symptoms are these. Black watery diarrhea. Severe n and v. Abdominal discomfort. I feel what may be a pocket of air in my chest every time I inhale. Also I vomited blood twice yesterday but I haven't since.Swollen lymph nodes under my neck. Was put on keflex and bactrim wednesday for symptoms also for sinus infection ( pain and pressure in maxillary and ethmoid sinuses). Went to ER last night and got IV fluids and CT scan of abdomen which showed nothing remarkable. Was given Amox clav 875mg for sinus infection which is what I usually take for sinus infections. (I don't know what that doc on Wednesday was thinking giving me bactrim and keflex) Also the ER gave me script for Nexium and carafate. I have eaten nothing but chicken noodle soup for the past 4 days.

Hello, Thank you for posting your question on Health Care Magic.
The problems which you have described are two set of problems.
One is your sinusitis for which I recommend you to continue the antibiotic you have been prescribed. Along with it please take steam inhalation for 4 to 5 times a day.
You have vomited twice with blood ,this could be due to many reasons one you have taken antibiotic which has triggered severe gastritis or you could have had a small gastric erosion due to gastritis.
In both the cases the drug of choice would be pantoprazole twice a day.
The black stool you had is just due to the blood you have swallowed during vomiting .
If your symptoms persist I would recommend you to see a gasteroenterologist and get an endoscopy done.
Meanwhile please hydrate yourself adequately. Anytime you feel dizzy or dehydrated reach the ER as soon as possible.

So I understand that I have gastritis. The ER dr said as much. I went to my PCP today. She said to take carafate and Nexium and zantac as ordered. She also said that the tarry diarrhea was blood which came from stomach. I have to go back to her in a week and she MAY do an EGD. Or is it EDG? At any rate I have stopped taking the keflex and bactrim and have been on the abt of Amox since Tuesday. I started Nexium Tuesday also although I know that takes 1-4 days to take effect. I forgot to ask my PCP however, when will I start to feel better? I am still nauseated and have this feeling of fullness. Stool is still diarrhea but not as black as before. I also still feel very feverish even though I haven't had a fever throughout all of this. Not even low grade. I feel altogether miserable. How long does gastritis last and when will I start to feel better?...even a little? .....that's all I want. And regarding the second problem I have; when will the amox 875 relieve the pressure in my sinuses? Thank you so much for your answer yesterday and please pardon me for the long inquiry. I just want to feel better is all. Sometimes I feel like I am at the beginning stage of some chronic illness I feel so bad. Please help. Thank you in advance. You are very much appreciated.

But Iam glad the stool is not black in colour anymore .
It may take a week for you to start feeling better.
The diarrhoea you are facing now could be due to Amoxycillin , taking lactobacillus along with it does help to control the diarrhoea.
Amoxycillin will help the sinusitis also , only thing taking steam inhalation around 3to4 times a day will ease the discomfort further.
Continue nexium and get the OGD done as soon as you settle down.
Please increase your water intake now , you may be dehydrated which explains your weakness and feverish sensation .
