Posted on Mon, 4 Apr 2022
Question: I passed out, fell and suffered concussions on 6/5. I was unconscious for several hours. I have taken treatment and my condition has improved. However, I am still having balance and dizziness, depending on the position of my head in bed.
Is this reason for concern or is this common?

Brief Answer:
Post-traumatic vertigo to consider.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

One of the effects after head and brain trauma is vertigo ( benign paroxysmal positional vertigo may happen in up to 28% of people who sustained brain injury).

Brainstem concussion and eighth nerve complex injury may be other less possible conditions after head and brain trauma.

All these possible conditions may cause balance issues and dizziness such in your case.

It is necessary to get evaluated by an ENT Doctor and by tests such as standard audiometry, tympanometry, electronystagmography, rotatory testing, temporal bone MRI, in order to get a correct diagnosis and treatment after that.

Hope you found the answer helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
