Brief Answer:
Middle childhood is prone to this type of behavioural problems.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I completely understand your concerns. Your child is in middle childhood at present. In this period children increasingly separate from parents and seek acceptance from teachers, other adults and peers. Self esteem becomes a central issue, as children develop the cognitive ability to consider their own self evaluations and their perception of how others see them. Perception of body image develop during this period. Also, they are under pressure to conform to the style and ideals of the peer group. Medical, social and psychological risks tend to occur together.

I would recommend you the following methods to help him deal with these:

1. Give unconditional support like a friend as well as realistic demands as he is venturing into a world that is often frightening.
2. A daily query over the dinner table or at bedtime about the good and bad things that happened during his day may uncover problems.Good communication is key to many psychological stressors.
3. Do not show difficulty in accepting his XXXXXXX and avoid excessive pressure to achieve academic or competitive success. Children who struggle to meet such expectations are more prone to behaviour or psychosomatic problems.
4. Try to create a healthy, trustworthy environment at home.

If inspite of the above measures after 1-2 months, you feel the problem is getting worse, you may consult a psychotherapist for counselling sessions.

Hopefully this will help you. In case you have any further questions, I will be happy to help you.
Take care
