Hi Dr XXXXXXX heijebu,,I benign protrate hypertrophy.for how long should I use drugs tto delay surgery.?
Brief Answer:
Surgery can be delayed by 6-12 months in borderline cases.
Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
i understand your concern.
Drugs used in the medical management of BPH can be used to control the symptoms.
These drugs can be used until the size of the prostate is well within the limits which does not cause obstructive symptoms.
Usually the drugs can delay the surgery for 6-12 months in the absence of obstructive symptoms.
Hence a surgery can be delayed for 6-12 months in case of borderline BPH.
Surgery is undertaken only when significant BPH causing recurrent infections or obstruction to urine flow is present.
Thank you.
