Suggest Treatment For Bile Reflux

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Feb 2015
Question: what can cause bile to be in the stomach, not gastric juices but pure green bile? Gallbladder was removed in 2000. There has been vomiting almost daily, loss of appetite, abdominal fulliness, and irritable syndrome. My gastroenterologist claims he does not know the cause of this. He had done an upper endoscopy and colonoscopy on me. put me on Linsess and I have been sick since the starting of taking Linsess. I stopped taking it after a week or so and symptoms have continued. It has been a year now and I go back tomorrow to finally see him again. His P. A. refused to do an E.R.C.P., saying it was too invasive., but offered to do an M.R.I. Weight loss since Dec. 3 2013 to date, I droppsed from 139 lbs. to 104lbs. Can you please suggest something to me? I feel like I am going to waste away and die. XXXXX XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Bile reflux or duodenogastric reflux

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Based on your description I consider you to be suffering from Bile reflux or duodenogastric reflux. The cause of it is most of times a duodenal ulcer which when treated can reduce the bile reflux.

More than Linsess you must be placed on a combination of Prokinetic drug and a Proton pump inhibitor. Also, a bile acid sequestrant like cholestyramine which sequester bile and reduces the effects of bile in the stomach and oesophagus.

Do get the MRI as many other causes like tumors or structural defects in pancreas and bile ducts can cause this reflux. By this the cause can be identified and cured.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.
