default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jan 2015
Question: Ive had bloating/fullness feeling in the upper belly area after every meal followed by a need to burp for the past week. When i do burp i vomit a little in my throat. I had a colonoscopy Sep2014 came back positive for colitis. Ive had 5 occult blood tests Sep 2014 came back negative. No pain just tight/fullness feeling (maybe bloated) in the upper abdomen region

Brief Answer:
Acid reflux/cholecyst/colitis problems.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and am sorry for the situation you are in.

1. The burping feeling you have after eating is indicative for possible:
- acid reflux
- cholecyst issues
- eating fast, thus, swallowing too much air

2. Vomiting when you burp is due to air swallowed when you eat.

Further investigations are needed to determine the right cause:
- abdominal ultrasound
- upper endoscopy

For the moment, I can only advise to:
- eat often, small portions and chew up slowly
- avoid foods that would aggravate your symptoms: e.g. oily; chilly; spicy foods etc.
- do not lay down immediately after eating
- start taking OTC PPIs (omeprazole or pantoprazole) and ranitidine
- Antacids are advised to be taken after each meal

Hope it was of help!
