Question : I have had a stuffy nose and drainage for about 4-6 weeks. No sore throat or fever or cough, just swallowing drainage a lot. I also experienced an infrequent pain in my right ear that would last a couple of seconds and would happen every couple of days that I assumed was from the congestion. I felt a hard small immovable lump under that ear up under the corner of my jawline. It felt very hard and immovable so I went to dr. and he said it felt like a benign node. He said if it felt rock hard or matted he would be concerned. He prescribed Ceftin for 10 days. I noticed 2 days later a lump in each armpit-the same on both sides. They are firm but not hard. None of the nodes have grown over 3 weeks & i think the neck node may have gone down a little. But my concern is the hardness of it. It is fairly deep in the neck. I know hard nodes can be something serious but is it possible at times for a node to feel this way from an infection?

Brief Answer:
You are most probably having Rhino-sinusitis with reactive Lymph node.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the query.

I have read your query , reviewed your medications and understand your concern.

After reading your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having Rhino-sinusitis with reactive inflammatory neck lymph node swelling .
Since neck lymph node responding to antibiotic no need to much concern about hardness of node . It is most likely due to Rhino-sinusitis & commonly seen at that place .

If I were your treating Doctor for this case , I would advice you
Take full course of antibiotic Ceftin along with ,
Steam Inhalation twice daily,
Saline nasal spray thrice daily ,
Antihistaminic & anti inflammatory drug .

You will get relief .

You can discuss this with your treating doctor.

Hope this information helpful to you .If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Regards.
