Question : My boyfriend has had IBS for a long time. He recently has had times when he has bled when he poops. Hs stomach is upset a lot. He had this happen a few years ago and had a colonoscopy but that turned up nothing. It was clean. Just prior to the colonoscopy, his doctor did an exam and thought there was a hemorrhoid. is there something over the counter he can take to alleviate the discomfort and address the bleeding?

                                    Brief Answer:
Rectal tears or hemorrhoids
Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns
I am sorry to hear that your boyfriend is plagued by IBS and that he has had some bloody stools. This could be from rectal tears or hemorrhoids. I would recommend that he try proctofoam or preparation H suppositories. Also after each bowel movement that he use Tucks pads to clean the area. The Tucks is a cleaning wipe with witch XXXXXXX that helps clean and sanitize the rectal area and allows for healing of a rectal tear and hemorrhoids. The proctofoam and suppositories will help any internal tears or hemorrhoids to heal.
I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions
