Suggest Treatment For Blood In Urine

Question: I was on a long driving trip (5 hours) yesterday, and when I got out of my car, I felt that I had to go to the bathroom and urinate. The site that I was at had no bathroom, so I got back in my car and started to drive to a gas station a mile away. While driving to the gas station, the urge to urinate continued to get stronger, I tried to hold it in, but some urine pushed thru and I partially urinated the front part of my underwear. I arrived at the gas station to finish urinating, I had no pain I noticed a little bright red blood in the front of my underwear. I did not see any signs of blood in the urine. I also had a moderate amount of urine, a few cups. I woke up this morning and urinated, no pain, I did not see any blood in the urine but a lesser amount of bright red blood came out after I finished and put my underwear back on. I noticed the blood when I was getting dressed in the morning a few minutes afterwards. My Background: I am 50 years old and I have never had blood come out ever. About a dozen times last year, I have had tightness and a little discomfort urinating in the early evening. This event, happened in the early evening yesterday.

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have passed few drops of blood in urine after attempting to hold on urine for a long time during journey.

During feeling phase there is increased flow of blood to bladder and bladder starts to contract when it gets filled with 250 ml of urine to pass out urine, At the same time when you attempt to hold on urination the muscle of Sphincter of Urethra contracts to prevent flow of urine .Thus there is sort of tug of war between involuntary contraction of bladder and voluntary contraction of Sphincter Urethra that results into rupture of few tiny vessels in posterior part of urethra giving rise to slight bleeding which normally gets cleared itself.

There is nothing to be worried about it .

Drink more water so that it will get cleared within next 2-3 urination.
