Question : YES PLEASE
I HAVE BEEN HAVING BOUTS OF SEVERE ABDOMINAL PAIN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW WITH INCREASED FREQUENCY AND SEVERITY. I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS SEVER GAS PAIN. HOWEVER IT IS NOW ACCOMPANIED WITH ABNORMALLY FOUL SMELLING LOOSE STOOLS WHICH ARE TOTALY NOT EVEN CLOSE TO NORMAL FOR ME. I HAVE CHRONIC BACK PAIN AND HAVE BEEN NARCOTIC DEPENDANT FOR MORE THAN 10 YEARS AND ONLY HAVING HAD ABOUT 1-2 BM'S PER WEEK. WE HAVE RECENTLY BEEN WEANING MY PERCOCET DOSE TO 5 TABS VS 6 TABS PER DAY OVER A MONTH AND NOW 4 TABS PER DAY FOR LAST 2 WEEKS. I THOUGHT MAYBE DIARHEA WAS SECONDARY TO THAT. WHICH BROUGHT ME TO MY DR AND HE ORDERED AN ULTRASOUND OF ABDOMEN AS WELL AS STOOL FOR C&S, CULTURE, LEUKOCYTE, O&P. WELL MY TESTS WERE LAST WEEK AND MY PRIMARY CARE DOC RETIRED LAST FRIDAY. AS A NURSE AT THE HOSPITAL OF WHICH TESTS WERE PERFORMED I GOT THE RESULTS OF SAID TESTS AND THEY REVIELED AN ENLARGED LIVER AND STOOL THAT IS POSITIVE FOR LACTOPHERRIN. I AM ALSO ON SEVERAL CARDIAC MEDICATION FOR SEVERE CAD/VASO SPASMS/HYPERCHOLESTEROL AND NEWLY DX HIGH B/P. WHICH IS DRASTIC CHANGE FROM HAVING HYPOTENSION.
IF YOU COULD PLEASE GUIDE ME IN THE NEXT STEP I NEED TO TAKE AND THE POSSIBLE DX IT MAY INDICATIVE OF AND JUST FYI MY LIVER MEASURED OVER 20. I HAVE STRONG FAMILIAL HX OF CA ON MOTHER AND FATHERS SIDE BUT NOT INCLUDING COLON CA. JUST TO NOTE I HAVE GAINED OVER 15 LBS IN THE LAST 5 MONTHS FOR NO REASON
PAST ABDOMINAL CT AND MRI SCANS NEVER REVIELED AN ENLARGED LIVER
THANK YOU SO MUCH MY NAME AND CONTACT INFO IS XXXXXXX HUFF S/W/F AGE 50 WITH HX OF 25 YEARS SMOKER

Brief Answer:
Lactoferrin in stool

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The recurrent abdominal pain, diarrhea and lactoferrin in stools is indicative of possible inflammatory bowel disease. Inflammatory bowel disease can be associated with inflammation of liver(hepatitis) which may be the resin for the enlarged liver
Liver functioning testing, colonoscopy and biopsy are recommended at this point.
Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider for further evaluation and management.
Meanwhile, it would be better to take oxycodone alone instead of percocet. As percocet contains acetaminophen which stresses the liver.

Hope this answers your question
Please let me know if you need further clarification
