Suggest Treatment For Breakouts On The Arms, Neck And Shoulders After Using Fluocinonide For Atopic Dermatitis
Question: I am interested in a treatment for what a doctor has determined I have: atopic dermatitis. I was prescribed Fluocinanide. I have had breakouts on my arms, neck and shoulders since 2006. Sometimes they are really bad and it appears the cream is not working. Sometimes they ooze liquids and are really itchy and a complete eyesore. Was wondering if there is something else that can be prescribed that is steroid free. By the way, I have a break out now.
Brief Answer:
Regarding atopic eczema
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
For an acute flare / breakout you would definitely require topical steroids with or without oral steroids, oral antibiotics and oral antihistamines. However, for maintenance or for mild involvement topical calcineurin inhibitors like tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are good non - steroidal alternatives along with emollients / moisturizers.
