Posted on Fri, 15 Sep 2017
Question: I have mild bronchiectasis. Sleep has been difficult since I feel like I am trying to catch my breath. Besides using an inhaler, is there anything else I could do ?

Hello
The ECG was normal. The breathing test was normal and a test for inflammation in the lungs was good. I do have a 4.1 ascending aorta aneursym. Seeing the cardiologist on Thursday. I do occansionally have a productive cough shortly after lying down. Would breathing in steam help?

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
you can use the nebulizer

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HealthcareMagic,

I can understand your concern,

As you explain the history you are experiencing breathlessness during the night and no cough with phlegm.

If you were my patient I would recommend you to do a Spirometry test with bronchodilator and an ECG.

The first is for exploring your lung volumes. If they are reduced. probably your doctor will prescribe you combined inhalers with steroids and bronchodilators (as needed ).

Actually, if you have a nebulizer device at home you can use it with steroids twice daily until you see your doctor.

The ECG is to exclude heart problems that may be the cause of breathlessness too despite Bronchiectasis.

Please discuss with your doctor about the above.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

As per the history, I don't think this is mainly a lung problem.

Yes, breathing in steam can help. You can try it without a problem.

It is a good thing that you have already excluded the lungs as the cause.

I think the cardiologist probably will order a cardiac ultrasound further to see the cardiac function.

Hope to have been helpful for you
