Suggest Treatment For Brown Specks On The Moles

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: Hello,

I have went to a dermatologist regarding two light moles that have developed brown specks in them- he said there was no need for concern but it still bothers me.

I am just wondering that why a dark brown speck would develop in each mole- its just one speck in each- its symmetrical - I am 22 years old and suffer from being a hypochondriac so i thought if i can get an explanation as to why a mole would do that it would make me feel better- i asked the derm to remove the mole and he said its unnecessary would cause unneeded scaring.

there is no history of skin cancer in my family.
I have blue eyes but medium skin that tans well- i do have a lot of moles though- not a crazy amount but more than a regular person

Brief Answer:
moles change over time

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for your question.
Moles change over time and exposure to sun and the elements. It is not unusual for a mole to change color or develop darker areas. if a dermatologist looked at it and said it was benign then it is probably nothing to worry about. Dermatologists are the experts at detecting cancer. If they suspect it at all they would remove it or do a biopsy.
If you really want it removed and want to avoid scarring see a plastic surgeon, they are the experts at surgery without scarring.

I guess it was just odd that i hate two fairly light moles ( i am used to having darker ones) on my back the exact same shade both develop the same darkness in the middle of them. But, the dermatologist has looked at them twice and barely blinked and said they were fine.

I just made the mistake of googling an the first thing that came up was changes in mole=always equals skin cancer. So i wanted to better understand why it could be happening to my moles!

Are there any other signs to look out for? they didnt change drastically i went on vacation and came back and noticed one had developed dark brown spot mark in the middle and the other one had developed a while back. Just freaky!!

Brief Answer:
bleeding and irregular shapes

Detailed Answer:
When moles bleed or change shape drastically then that is a warning sign that something could be changing. Small pigment changes are not usually a concern. If a mole that was light and smooth becomes irregularly shaped with multiple dark and light areas it can be a sign of some significant change.
What you have sounds benign, but it is always good to look for changes

thanks for photos

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have examined all the photos you have uploaded. These are all very benign looking moles. The darker pigmentation in the center is not concerning at all.

Thank-you very much - ill be sure to give you a good rating - thanks for your patience!

One last question before i close- sorry i feel annoying- but if i see small changed like these where dark pigmentation has occurred should i always see my derm? or are small changes like these not to worry about?

I had a friend recently diagnosed with melenoma so you understand where my fear comes from.

Brief Answer:
good to see derm

Detailed Answer:
Yes, melanoma is a frightening prospect.
I think when you see a change in your skin, in texture or color, it is always good to see a dermatologist and make sure that it is benign. Yearly dermatology checkups are not a bad idea either since we can't see all of our skin.
I am signing off for tonight but if you have further questions send the to me and I will answer in the morning
