Question: Hello, I fell last week 12/17/2015 and bruise my knee quite bad. Couldn't put ice on until late in the evening. I do the ice packs 1st then the moist heat. 1 week later my shin and ankle are also black and blue the knee is getting a little lighter in color. No pain when I stand or walk. Why does the bruise seem to travel? I am a female 53 yrs old.

Brief Answer:
This is haemetoma

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome to HCM

I have studied your case and I think that you are having collection of blood just under skin. It is called haematoma. This is slowly dissolving and that is the cause of change in colour. It starts from blue then brown and then yellow. Also as blood comes down it feels like bruise is travelling. It is a common thing after injury and it is nothing serious. You need to follow these steps.

1.Hot water f fomentation as ice has no role after 48 hours.
2.Avoid if you are taking any blood thinning drug like aspirin or clopidogrel after discussing with your physician for one week.
3.Compression bandage or stocking. Avoid standing for long time.

I hope this answer will be helpful for you.
Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
Thanks
