Question : I slipped off the bottom step and hit the corner of the step (made of rail road ties) with my buttocks, then slid down and hit my elbow and head. Not sure of the exact process, as it happened in a nano-second, but I have a bruise on my upper buttock, closes to the top of the gluteal cleft. This happened 6 days ago, and I continue to experience 8-10/10 level pain upon rising from a squat or ascending stairs. Going down stairs causes very little pain. Every step I take generates about a lever 4-5/10 pain.
I have chosen to wait and see before going for x-rays, since I don't really want to spend a bunch of money to learn that I have a fracture (or I don't) and there isn't really anything to be done, other than avoid straining the supporting soft tissue until the pain subsides. Also, I thought I'd wait for some calcification to occur if there is a fracture. Your thoughts?

Hello

Thank You for contacting HCM. My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. Two common differential in your case includes muscular spasm & fracture. In case of fracture there is almost no movement possible and pain is unbearable. There is quite a possibility that your pain is due to muscular spasm. If i were your treating doctor then i would have advised following things:

- naproxen twice a day for 5 days.
- take hot water in a rubber bottle and put it at the site of pain. It will give soothing effect.
- avoid lifting heavy weight till you become healthy again.
- ask some family member to do oil massage on your back area. It will also give soothing effect.

Hopefully you will observe improvement soon but If pain persists then visit hospital for workup(including imaging study) & physiotherapy.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
