default
Posted on Tue, 3 Nov 2015
Question: I am unsure if I broke my thumb. I am not even sure what i did but it is bruising and tender to the touch. I still have full range of motion and it is not painful as long as i do not push on it. My question is, do I need to go to the ER or can i wait and see if it improves on its own?

Brief Answer:
You can wait and see if it improves with cold compress.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
If there is no history of injury, then a fracture is less likely. The full range of motion and no pain on motion also suggests that this is not a serious issue. This can be due to an infection or inflammation also. You can do a cold compress in the area and rest it. In case the swelling increases or the movements are painful with sudden sharp pain or there is any fever then do attend an ER for examination and prescription medicines.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
