Suggest Treatment For Bruising On The Right Upper Quadrant Of Foot

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jul 2015
Question: Hi - I ran into a chair one week ago - bruised my baby toe pretty badly. I iced and elevated immediately as well as took some advil. the next day the bruising showed up around the right upper quadrant of the foot. I continued to ice and elevate through the week and the pain has subsided a lot. Today however it seems to be swollen in the baby toe and around it (although next toe is normal). Should I be alarmed? I have been walking on it and exercising a bit, but concerned about todays swelling - can you help?

Brief Answer:
Bruise needs more resting/ cooling, special bandaids available for toes

Detailed Answer:
Dear patient,

bruise of a small toe can take a few weeks to heal and needs some more rest. The new swelling might be due to early walking and exercising and should usually get better again with resting/ cooling. There i special bandaids/tapes which your local gp or orthopedic can put on the small toe to give it more stability to allow it to heal better. Try to be easy on the walking/ exercising as far as possible, especially if it gets worse from it again. Due to the limited circulation down there swellings sometimes need longer to get better than in other locations of the body.

Hope this is helping you , if you have any clarificatons you can get back to me, if this was helpful please kindly rate my answer. Best regards

Thank you - I did more walking than I wanted to (after a spin class!) and was feeling it by the end of the day for sure. I skipped the gym today - good to know I can continue the icing/elevating and will look into the taping for stability. I certainly don't want to make it worse.
