Suggest Treatment For Bulimia Nervosa
Question: I WAS NEVER DIAGNOSED WITH ANYTHING. I WAS NEVER "RIGHT" GROWNG UP AND NEVER WENT TO THE DOCTOR. mY PARENTS DIDN'T BELIEVE IN IT.
AT 20 I WENT IN AND WAS TOLD HEY HERE'S AN ANTIDEPRESSANT TRY THIS! THIS WAS AT AFTER AN EATING DISORDER THAT STARTED IN HIGH SCHOOL AND LANDED ME IN A SHORT TERM CENTER AT 77 POUNDS.
I AM 44 NOW AND I AM NOT ONLY STILL BATTLING THAT EATING DISORDER, I HAVE ADDED AN EXERCISE ADDICTION, AND GONE IN AND OUT WITH ALCOHOL, IN AND OUT WITH BENZOS, AND BEEN PUT ON EVERY POSSIBLE COMBINATION OF ANTIDEPRESSANTS THERE ARE. AT LEAST THATS HOW I FEEL.
HOWEVER IF IT SAYS GAIN WEIGHT UNDER SIDE EFFECTS IT MAKES MY BULIMIA WORSE......
RIGHT NOW I AM 5'2" AND WEIGHT 86 POUNDS AND CAN'T THINK OR FUNCTION. I GOT MY TEACHING JOB BACK, BUT CAN'T BE ON TIME. I HURT MYSELF REPEATEDLY WHEN I FAIL, AND NOW MY MARRIAGE IS HURTING TOO.
MY KIDS *18 AND 17) HAVE SUFFERED AND I DON'T KNOW WHERE ELSE TO GO......I HAVE TOO MANY PILLS TO CHOOSE FROM AND NO GUIDANCE. :-(

I have read your query and understood that you have diagnosed or possibly treated for eating disorder [?bulimia nervosa]
Here , I want to ask that by UP UP means what? [I understand that by UP you mean your sadness has improved. Whether it is more than improvement in mood? Euphoric feeling? excessive money spending? excessively talking? High energy level?] Whether you have been depressed mostly? Are there are episodes of euphoria in between?
You have been on most of the antidepressants available. SO it would be difficult to suggest a combination now. But in resistant cases and also for eating disorder we Add low dose of antipsychotic, like combination of prozac 20 and olanzapine 5. It will help you in your depression as well as stabilize your mood if it is fluctuating a lot. Another important drug here is mirtazapine, but it causes weight gain and sedation. It might be helpful. You need to discuss this with your Psychiatrist.
You can discuss about these drugs with your prescribing doctor. I am in favor of adding low dose of antipsychotic.
