Question : Hello, I have a smaller than BB sized bump on the inside of my upper lip on the left side. It is literally internal, I cannot see it with my eyes. There is no pain or irritation at all, I can only feel it with my tongue, and I noticed the other side isn't like that. It doesn't seem to be growing, at least not yet. Again, it doesn't hurt and is not visible. Any ideas?

Hello again, sorry for the delay, but as I read about mucous cysts, it seems like they should be visible. What concerns me is that I can't see it, only feel it. I understand it's probably nothing to be worried about, but I want to get that point across...it's invisible. Is it common for them to not involve irritation or even be visible? Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it.

                                    Brief Answer:
It is common for them to be symptomless.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thank you for writing back.
1. A small cyst will not be visible, causes no irritation and requires no treatment.
2. These usually arise from minor salivary glands. Sometimes these are scar tissue or other benign tissue lumps (such as fat, muscle).
3. Get a depot steroid injection in the vicinity of the bump. That should settle it. There are other options but these are for larger cysts.
I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.
Regards.
