Suggest Treatment For Burning Pain After Intercourse

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Feb 2015
Question: I am 59 and in the throes of menopause. I experience a burning pain after having intercourse. The pain is a burning sensation and feels like the perineum has been torn, however there is no tear. I am well lubricated but by the time we finish it "feels" very dry and it is "breathtaking" (in a very bad way) when he has finished and removing himself. Urinating afterwards is painful for about the first three toilet visits.

Brief Answer:
Its ATROPHIC VAGINITIS

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for contacting healthcaremagic.
If you are already into menopause , then the most common cause of your problem is atrophic vaginitis, which occurs due to lack of estrogen and hence inadequate cervicovaginal secretions produced for lubrication and its maintenance during the intercourse.
Vaginal dryness can cause vaginal abrasions and they can be painful after the intercourse and especially while urination when warm urine would touch the abraded vaginal mucousa.
what you can do is use the following.
ESTRIOL VAGINAL CREAM thrice a week application , this would help regenerate the vaginal mucousa and prevent such episodes in future. This course can be continued for 3 months initially then a break of a month and then again for 3 months.
A urine culture test may be done to rule out urine infection as that may also be the cause of burning while urination per se. Though unlikely but its better to rule it out.
