Suggest Treatment For Burning Sensation In The Uretha

default
Posted on Thu, 26 Mar 2015
Question: I currently have clear urine, itchy skin with welts, and a burning feel in the uretha. I previously had a urine test that showed high white blood cell count, so was given 5 days of antibiotics as I was also urinating large quantities and frequently. After antibiotics, I no longer urinate frequently and quantities seem back to normal, but I still have clear urine, itchy/ welt skin ( especially first thing in the morning) and a continued burning in the uretha. Any idea?

Brief Answer:
recurrent UTI....

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query,
It is important that a urine culture be done to isolate the organism which is causing recurrent UTI. The skin is itchy because of the moisture and probable local fungal infection over the vulva. It IS advised that you may take a single stat dose of TAB FLUCONAZOLE 300mg . This should take care of the fungal infection and hope your itching subsides sooner.

Hello, I should clarify that the itchiness is on arms and legs and I still have clear urine. So are you saying that the five days of antibiotics were not enough? please let me know. Thank you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
If there is a burning in urethra while voiding urine every morning then there may be infection still left. Ideal course of a urinary tract infection is for 7 -14 days and not mere 5 days.
Secondly , the itching which is seen over the wet skin and on arms and legs then it is a possibility of fungal infection as well, hence antifungal treatment with fluconazole is advisable. You can also use OTC anti allergens like cetrizine to decrease the itching and applying lactocalamine solution will help too.
